AXEL was a large (65cm/26in), powerfully-built male with outstanding character. He was recommended for improvement of type and rear angulation in his breed survey and was highly placed in both AKC and USA/SV sponsored shows and matches.

He was bred by Herbert Oster of Bimsgrube kennels In Germany. His dam, V1 Jessy von der Bimsgrube SchH1 Kkl-1a LBZ (1985 German Youth Vice Siegerin), was bred to 1986-87 German Sieger Quando von Arminius SchH3 FH IPO3 Kkl-1a LBZ and imported in whelp by Jane Steffenhagen of Steffen Haus kennels. We purchased him as a puppy and had OUR first pick of the six males in that litter. The litter of nine was very impressive in their drives and structure. What impressed us about AXEL was his confidence, intelligence and his ability to outsmart his litter mates in their games and gain the upper hand. He has been one of the most intelligent dogs we have lived with, showing an uncanny reasoning ability when solving problems.

AXEL was a versatile dog; solid and intense in his schutzhund protection work and friendly when socializing at schools and nursing homes. I used him as a 'demo' dog when teaching classes and he traveled extensively with us in the U.S. and Europe. He enjoyed beer gardens, waitresses pampered him in restaurants and he shopped with us in stores all over Europe.

He was a natural tracker and all of his schutzhund phase A scores are V rated (SchH1=96, IPO1=96, SchH2=98, IPO2=97, SchH3=97, IPO3=100). His progeny also are excellent in their drive for scent work. 'AXEL' was worked by dozens of helpers in schutzhund and even ring sport in Europe and North America. He showed absolute sureness even under intense pressure. He was ready for rigorous combat yet was a gentleman off the field. His protection scores (phase C) were rated 'pronounced'.  'AXEL' earned his schutzhund titles under strict leistung (working) judges in Germany. His success was especially meaningful since he was a foreign dog competing with German dogs in Germany at a time when this was a rarity.

AXEL was bred with a wide variety of German working and show bloodlines. He consistently produced correct shoulder, full fore-chest, straight fronts, strong top-lines, excellent rear angulation, correct croups, full dentition and good secondary sex characteristics. The characters have been honest and incorruptible with strong and balanced working drives.

Owners of AXEL progeny (and even grand and great-grand progeny!) say that the loyalty and intelligence were second to none. His success was proven by the fact that many people returned for further puppies from us and would only consider AXEL bloodlines. Breeders liked the results of his progeny so much that they repeated breedings with him.

There are descendants in all of the competitive sports (obedience, herding, schutzhund, tracking, agility/fly-ball, show and ring sport) as well as services of search/rescue, police/narcotics and therapy/support work. Many of these dogs have received high placements and high in trial scores.
